Understanding Organizational Behavior with Wearable Sensing Technology

Benjamin N. Waber, Daniel Olguín Olguín, Taemie Kim, and Alex (Sandy) Pentland utilize the Sociometric badge to evaluate the behavior of two organizations. As a result of these two studies, they found that physical proximity had a high negative correlation with email communication and communication patterns (digital and face-to-face combined) could accurately predict employees’ self-assessments on satisfaction and performance. In both cases, wearable sensing technology was critical in predicting organizational outcomes.
